How LocalLaunch handles your data, under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
LocalLaunch is a trading name of Cloud Sherpa Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC697109), registered office Stewart House, Ardnablane, Dunblane, FK15 0NU. Cloud Sherpa Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about your data at hello@locallaunch.uk.
2. If we built a site about your business and you never asked us to
This is the section for you if you received a postcard or an email from us, or found a site about your business at something.locallaunch.uk. We build sample sites for UK local businesses from public information before being asked, so that there is something real to look at rather than a sales pitch. You never gave us your details, so the law requires us to tell you the following directly.
Where we got the information. All of it came from sources that were already publicly accessible: your Google Business Profile listing (via the Google Places API), your Facebook page if you have one, your own website if you have one, and public search results. We have not bought your details, and they did not come from a data broker or a mailing list.
What we hold about you. Your business name, address, phone number and opening hours; photographs published on your public listing; the text and ratings of reviews published about you; a business contact email address where one was published publicly; and a record of what we sent you and when.
Why we are allowed to (lawful basis). Our legitimate interests, specifically: building a working example of a website for your business; telling you it exists and offering it to you; and keeping a record of anyone who has asked us to stop, so that we don't contact them again. We have written down the balancing test behind that and will send it to you if you ask. We do not rely on legitimate interests to email a personal or consumer mailbox — we don't email those at all.
You can object, and we have to stop. Your right to object to direct marketing is absolute: you don't need a reason, and we cannot weigh it against our own interests. One click removes the site and stops all contact — post and email — permanently.
How long we keep it. An unclaimed sample site and the research behind it stay until you claim the site or ask us to remove it. If you ask us to stop, we keep a deliberately minimal do-not-contact record — your email address and/or your listing's public id, plus the date — for as long as we are in business. That record exists only so that we never contact you again; deleting it is what would let a future sweep rediscover you and start over, which is precisely what you asked us not to do.
3. What we store (customers)
Once you claim a site, we store the business information used to build and run it — name, address, phone, opening hours, photos, and the publicly available research described in section 2 — and the contact email you use to sign in to your dashboard.
4. Why we use it (lawful basis)
We process your data to perform our contract with you (building, hosting and billing your site), and on the basis of our legitimate interests in creating a site for your business from public information and in keeping the service secure. Where the law requires it, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
5. Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and never touch LocalLaunch's servers — we only ever see a card brand and its last four digits.
6. Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run LocalLaunch, acting on our instructions: Stripe (payments), Microsoft (Azure hosting and Microsoft 365 email), and Google (the public business data we build your site from). Your data is hosted in the UK/EU.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your subscription is active. When you cancel, your account enters a short grace window and is then deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time. If you are not a customer, section 2 covers how long we keep an unclaimed sample site and its research.
8. Cookies
Your dashboard uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
9. Email
If you are a customer, we email you transactional messages only — sign-in links and updates about your site (for example when a redesign is built or goes live).
If we built a sample site for your business, we may write to you once or twice to tell you it exists, at a business address published on your own domain — never to a personal or consumer mailbox. Every such message carries a one-click unsubscribe that works without a reply, an account or an explanation, and a link to remove the site entirely. We never send marketing on behalf of third parties, we do not sell or share your address, and we place no tracking pixels in our email.
10. Your rights
If we built a preview site about your business and you want it gone, you don't need to make a request. Remove it here — one click, no account, and you don't have to tell us why. The site goes offline, we delete what we collected, and we won't contact you again or rebuild it.
You also have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your data, and to receive a copy of it. Email hello@locallaunch.uk to make a request. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data you can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
